Creation is primal joy.

Freedom is found in purpose. Not in idleness. Be careful of being idle for too long or we will invent problems to keep us busy. The Devil makes work for idle hands and all that.

The gentleman has the means to be idle but chooses not to be. He engages in work that is valuable for its own sake and to make the world better.

I visited Birmingham a while back and was deeply impressed with the beauty of the buildings and the plethora of public spirited associations that once existed there. All were created by voluntary effort and mostly with donated money. How wonderful to have been part of this act of creation!
